Girls Night again! FINALLY!

With the holiday's coming to a close we can get back into normal habits and routines! Yippie! It seems like forever since we've had a girls night (well, maybe forever for me since I wasn't a part of the whole "Twilight" thing... by choice) Anyway, Brittney and I have set a date! The date is January 9th (Friday), and we have a reason to celebrate! My 30th birthday is on the 12th! (Please do NOT bring me anything) There is a poll to the right to vote on what you want to do for Girls night. Please vote so we can get everything planned. Hope you all can make it. As always everyone is invited, and please make sure people who don't check the blog know about it.

Fridge Help!!

Hillary Turner is having problems with her fridge.
She called the repairman and you know how they are...they charge you an arm and leg just to come out, then the parts and labor add up too. She is asking for help from anyone who know about refrigerators, or knows someone who does to even come and look at it. See what is going to be needed and the cost. And possibly fix it for her. I'm sure we all know how things are this time of year, and she's not wanting to get a new one if it's not necessary.

Please call Hillary at 766-3452 or 362-7448 if you can help or know anyone who can.

Happy Holidays Ladies

I found this volunteer information and thought I would pass it on! I know a lot of times I want to help this time of year but don't know where to start so....... I thought I would pass on the info!!!
Happy Holidays Ladies
Volunteer Opportunities Sponsored by Riverton Motors
Give the gift of time – Join Riverton Motors over the holidays by donating your volunteer time. Utah Food Bank Services has a wide variety of volunteer opportunities for both groups and individuals. Volunteers are a tremendous part of what we do, as we use more volunteer labor than paid staff! A list of volunteer opportunities is available below. Just complete our volunteer application or call (801) 978-2452 and ask to speak to a Volunteer Officer today!
Sort Food and Build Orders
Individuals and groups of up to 60 people are needed to help sort food and build orders at Utah Food Bank Services. Volunteers inspect and sort food and build orders in preparation for shipment to over 240 programs and agencies statewide. This fulfilling work is fast-paced and may require lifting of up to 40 lbs. Flexible shifts are available. Children under 12 are welcome on Monday evenings for “Family Night.” Youth under 18 must be accompanied by an adult (1 adult per 5 youth for groups and families).
Snow Shoveling
As the temperatures drop and the snow flys we are looking for volunteers to clear away unwanted snow in driveways and walkways for seniors who are too frail and unable to shovel snow themselves. You can adopt a senior for the snow season or help when you can.
Yard Care
We are always on the lookout for volunteers willing to help senior citizens and people with disabilities with yard work, gardening, raking and snow removal. Groups and individuals are also invited to participate in two of our annual events: the “Fall Leaf Haul” and the “Spring Spruce-Up.” Help us rake and bag leaves in the fall and prepare yards for the summer in the spring.
Decorate Food Boxes
We invite you to make a food box extra festive for our clients. Volunteers use colored pencils, crayons and anything else they can think of to spice up the boring cardboard boxes. It is a great opportunity for kids to exhibit their creativity and brighten someone else’s day. This activity can be done offsite, however please call the volunteer coordinator at 887-1234 to confirm we have boxes available in advance.

Call for Donations

Hi Ladies,
If you have donations for the fundraiser boutique I am now starting to collect them. We will be out if town for Thanksgiving so you can bring them now until Wednesday morning, or anytime Sunday. We will be home Sunday afternoon so if we don't answer just leave them on the porch. My goal is to get everything photographed and listed by Monday evening. I will post a link Monday so you can view everything. If you are still working on your items just bring them to me when you can. Thank you!!!

Need help making Quilts

I purchased a whole bunch of fabric and batting to make quilts for my parents humanitarian trip to Arizona this year. I am running out of time so if anyone is interested in making a quilt for charity I have all the supplies, I just need people to help sew. I have enough materials for about 30 more quilts. If you are interested in helping give me a call or post a message here and I will contact you. These are super easy quits that are about crib blanket size and can be tied with yarn- nothing fancy! If you don't have a sewing machine I could sew the blanket if you are willing to tie it. This would be a great family home evening with you kids. You could even show them pictures of the kids they blankets will be going to. You can learn more about the humanitarian project here. The blankets need to be done by December 1st. Thanks!

Help!!!

Ladies, I really need some help here, my 2 year old, Annie has taken to waking up in the middle of the night and screaming.  Sometimes for hours, sometimes multiple times a night.  Nothing will console her, she kicks and she screams.  Very loud and piercing screams.  She's awake, so I don't think she's having nightmares or anything.  If I try to hold her she just kicks at me and arches away.

I'm almost at my wits end...I don't know what to do to help her or make it stop.  Has anyone else had any experience with this?  Does anyone have any soothing tips that might work?  Any advice you might have would be GREATLY appreicated.  Please comment or e mail me at mandolin442@yahoo.com.  Thanks so much!

Fabric

I trying to get some projects done before this baby comes. I was wondering if anyone had any extra fabric laying around that I could take off their hands! I need any cotton or flannel. I can even pay if you weren't not wanting to just give it away. I thought I would just ask around before I went out and bought a bunch of stuff! Let me know, you can e-mail me: Brittles82@msn.com.

Tuesday Morning

Brittney Miskin and Mauri Brewer are trying to get a group together Tuesday morning at 9am to go have some fun! We were planning to go hit up the free breakfast at IKEA, and then go spend some time at Tai Pan Trading in Sandy (if you haven't been there, you are missing out on some cute home decor!).

The plan is to meet at Brittney Miskin's house at 9am, and try to get up to Ikea by 9:30. Then, after we are done eating (and looking around) we will head to Tai Pan (maybe like 10:30). We can try to car pool as much as possible, and if you really want to come, but don't have a ride we can possibly come pick you up. Just let me us know if you are wanting to come, or need a ride by leaving a comment or calling Brittney Miskin.

And yes, we are bringing children (sigh)...

This is the week

Everyone, I'm so excited...it's finally come down to the week of the 60 mile walk. From Friday to Sunday, I will be walking about 20 miles a day and camping with all the other walkers. In the 3-day Susan G. Koman walk for the cure. This is more than the race for the cures...the distance is longer and the fundraising goal is higher. My mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and so this walk as a lot of importance to me. But one in seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer so this is something that more than likely will affect each and everyone of us in one way or another.
Part of my preparation for the walk included raising money and I am still a little ways away from my goal. Here is where I come to you...I know money is tight for some of us...probably most...but look at your budget and see if you might even be able to donate a few dollars. If we are all able to donate even just a few dollars it would add up fast and we could make a great stride towards finding a cure for breast cancer.
If you are not able to I completely understand...but I want to feel like I am doing my part in this fight. And in addition to donating my money, time and probably the comfort of my feet for a while after the walk I knew I could spread the word and get those who are able to help fight against breast cancer.
you can, click here to donate, if you are able.
and please spread the word to those you know that might be able to help.
I just hope and pray that the money raised can go towards the research that will find a cure so that my children might live in the day were breast cancer can be easily beaten.

thanks for listening to my rambling and for those of you who donate and/or spread the word about raising money for the Susan G. Koman foundation.

Halloween Party Pictures...

I thought the easiest way to post ALL the pictures was to add them to my picasa album. You can view them here. Also I know a lot of you took lots of pictures to. So if you e-mail them to me at nmbrewer@hotmail.com, we can add them too...your kids or ours, we'll take them all.

Boutique Update

Okay slight change of plans for the fundraiser boutique! We are still on, but instead of doing it at my house I am going to do it online on Etsy. My very smart husband helped me realize if I start hanging up signs all over and passing around fliers in releif society I am going to embarrass my very good friend who is already being a very good sport about me doing this for her. So... I am going to open an Etsy shop that will list all the donated items from December 1st to the end of year. This will actually be better since the items will be viewed for longer and people can forward the listings to friends and family to help us get more support.
If you offered to make a craft item keep crafting. Your dealine is now the first of December to either bring me the item or e-mail me a photograph of it. At the end of December if your item doesn't sell I will return it to you, or you can donate it to the family. If you were planning on making a baked item, sorry, it just won't work, but kudos to you anyway!
Thank you to all who offered to help with fliers. I don't need you to do that now but use that time and energy to promote the store online and do some shopping!
Watch for a post from me towards end of November. I will post a link to the shop and instructions on how to purchase/pick up items.
Any questions convo me!

Christmas Boutique Fundraiser

Hi Ladies,
As many of you know the Barkdull family has been awaiting Matt's kidney transplant and it looks like it is going to happen after Christmas at the end of December or first of January. Matt will obviously have to take some time off to recovery and it will be a difficult time for the entire family. I have decided to host a boutique in December to help raise money for them and would love and appreciate any help.
It's going to be Saturday, December 6th, right here in my home. I am looking for people who are willing to help distribute fliers the week before, help that day with setting up and running the cash register, and help with cleaning up afterwards. I was hoping to get people to do two hour shifts so you don't have to bee here all day. The boutique will go from about 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
I am also looking for donations. This can be anything from hand made items or crafts to baked goods or any thing you would generally find at a boutique. All the proceeds will go to the family, and any left over items will either be returned to the person who made them, or just donated right to the family and they can use then as Christmas gifts. The person who donated the item can decide.
Anyway, if you are willing to help please e-mail me at craftynaty@gmail.com or call me at 494-9279. Thank you!!!

Found A Dog

Today a dog decided to call my house home. I have called the animal shelter and they want me to give them the dog and then after 5 days, if it is not claimed, they will either put it up for adoption or put it to sleep. The dog is a chocolate color, kinda looks like a hound or a lab but not for sure. It is a puppy and has a green/yellow collar with a shock thing on it. I will keep the dog at my house for a day or two then I will revaluate what to do with it. It is a pure bread dog and a very good looking dog I would be surprised if I had him over night! Someone should be looking for him. I did put up signs around the neighborhood but they are for a chocolate lab. Anyway, let me know if you know who the dog belongs too!

Anyone Interested In Doing Daycare?

I'm getting really behind on some work, and for the next few weeks would be looking for someone to watch Maddie for maybe 4 hours a day?  It most likely would not be every day, and would really only last a few weeks to help me get caught up.  Email me at sarah@kimmelhome.net if you are interested with how much you would charge.  Thanks!

YARD SALE!!

Everyone!
There is going to be a multi family garage sale this Saturday, the 27th on the corner of 1950 S and 620 W from 8 to 1 ish.
There have been a few people who have commented that they are bringing things to sell...but anyone else is welcome too. Just let me know, so I know to expect you. Everyone will keep the money they make from the sale.
Another option is to donate things you what to get rid of...Mauri is putting the money she makes towards a 3-day walk for the cure, Susan G Koman event that she is participating in. Any donations would be really appreciated so that we might be able to contribute as much money as possible to this great cause. For those of you who don't know, Mauri's mom was diagnosed with breast cancer and is currently going through chemo treatment to try and beat it. So this is a very personal thing for her.

Those who can...

A few of us have decided that we are going to have a joint yard sale on Saturday, September the 27th and we want to know that all who are interested in being involved are invited...whether you have lots of things you want to bring over and we can make it more of a multi-family yard sale...or if you just like to yard sale shop and want to stop by and take a gander at what we've got out.
And if it motivates you at all...the money that I make is going to go to the Susan G. Koman, Breast Cancer Research Foundation. My mom was diagnosed with, and is currently battling, breast cancer and I would like to be able to donate as much money as I can towards that great foundation...
If you have a few things you want to get rid of and just want to donate to the garage sale too, that would be great.
(If you want to participate though...you are able to keep what you make...I'm not trying to take any one's money °Ãœ°)
I'm not sure what others have gathered...but we've already got about 8 boxes full of things from home decoration items, fabric, toys, baby clothes, scrapbook supplies and 3 or 4 big items.
So lots to look at!

Free Trees

I have three dwarf pine junipers that my sister pulled out of her landscaping last week. They look full grown and are under three feet tall. We were going to plant them in our yard but changed our mind so if anyone wants them let me know! They are the ones that smell like little Christmas trees and are really pretty. They need to be planted as soon as possible since they have been living in my garage for several days. Please call me if you are interested- first come first serve!

Who Loves Chocolate?

My aunt is coming out to Utah, and she does a new home based business with Dove Chocolate.  I'm not one for having those parties (no one ever seems to come to them when I throw them, plus I'm horrible at sales).  Anyway.... is anyone else interested in having a party for her?  Here is the email I received from her....

I am a chocolatier with Dove Chocolate.  This is a new home-based business.  My website is:  www.dovechocolateathomecom/cathy

As it is very new, especially out in the west, I am helping them by tring to train and recruit new chocolatiers.  I am coming to Lehi, Utah to have a Dove chocolate tasting party on Thursday, September 25th at 7:30pm.  I would love to have another chocolate tasting party lined up for Thursday morning, or afternoon or even Wednesday, September 24th night.  Would you be interested in hosting one?   Do you know anyone who would like to host one, or even look into the business opportunity?

Cathy

Let me know if you are interested, and I'll forward the info on to my aunt.

EVERYONE'S INVITED

to a SWIM PARTY!
behind Mauri's house...
on Tuesday, September 9th.
at 11:30 until the kids get too cranky. °Ãœ°
Bring lunch and any water activites you may want to bring.
We'll have a couple little swimming pools...

Squash recipe

Hi Everyone,
If you are like me, wondering what to do with my squash, than you should check out this recipe. This is a blog that my sis-in-law sent me. This recipe is off her website. I thought I would share my findings! The great thing about this site is she shows how to implement food storage in your everyday living!
http://www.everydayfoodstorage.blogspot.com/
This recipe is called "Twinkie Surprise Cupcakes." Most people think the surprise is the raspberry filling but actually the surprise is pureed summer yellow squash! No one can taste the pureed squash and they are moist, easy, and taste just like a Twinkie! I came up with this recipe when my yellow summer squash plant was producing A LOT of squash and we were tired of eating it as a vegetable side dish. I tried researching recipes to use it in other ways, like you can with zucchini, but I didn't find anything great. After some concoctions in the kitchen, Voila! a great cupcake for both kid and adult alike using yellow summer squash as a surprise.
Twinkie Surprise Cupcakes-makes 36 cupcakes
1 Box Yellow Cake Mix
1 C. Pureed Summer Yellow Squash
1/2 C. Water2 T. Vegetable Oil
3 Large Oakdell Eggs (or 4 T. Honeyville Powdered Eggs + 1/2 C. Water)
3/4 C. Meadow Gold Sour Cream
2 C. Lemon Grove Red Raspberry Jam
1 Container of Vanilla Frosting (optional)
1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Line cupcake trays with cupcake liners.
2. In a large bowl, mix the cake mix, summer yellow squash puree, water, oil, eggs, and sour cream. Beat until smooth, 1-2 minutes.
3. Fill cupcake liners 1/3 of the way. Dot each with raspberry jam, then cover with batter until the cups are 3/4 filled.
4. Bake until the tops of the cupcakes are golden and spring back to the touch, about 20-25 minutes. Turn the cupcakes onto wire rack to cool. Once they are cooled, frost with vanilla frosting, if desired.
Thanks for considering it! It really is amazing!

Some good produce info from Heather

I found a place in P.G. where they have tomatoes for 50cents a pound. the number to call is 921-0787 He also has pickling cucumbers. Something I just learned about making your pickles crispy is you have to put Alum/Allum in them. I don't know the right spelling but I was told you could get it at the grocery stores.

You can go to this website www.westmountainraspberries.com it is in Payson and you pick them yourself but what fun!!!!! It is only $2.29 per lb. YUM YUM I see raspberry lemonade in your future!!! Phone number is 465 4284 and they are open from 7am to dusk.

Last one!! Can you tell it is time for canning!!! Anyway these are Peaches. Ready now are the last of the juicy red haven peaches and in about a week the lemon Elberta will be ready. These are 11lb to 12lb boxes costing only $8.50 if you bring your own box/container. Don't worry if you don't have your own container you only save .50cents having one. These are in Orem and his number is 225-3744

Also, you don't have to buy big amonts!!! The reason for the phone number on all of them except the raspberries is you need to call ahead and tell them what you want and when you will pick them up they are all family farms and great people!!!

Yard Swap

It is the end of summer and the things we haven't used should go, right! Well I thought it would be fun on a Sat to set up a YARD SWAP! Then after the YARD SWAP we would just continue on to have a yard sale if you want.

How it works is we would have a time say from 6-8am (or later this is just an example) that we could go around the ward neighborhood and be able to get things that we want for free. You would put a little sign in your yard that said WARD YARD SWAP on it and this way we know which houses are participating. Then from say 8-12 we have signs up around town for a neighborhood yard sale.

I think we should shoot for Aug 30 or Sept 6. I don't think we should wait any longer because the weather is getting colder.

Jane Austin Book Club

I wanted to get a few girls together to do a Jane Austin Book Club. There are 7 books including Lady Susan and I thought we could get 7 girls and each one choose a book and they would host the review at there house for that book. Maybe supply a fun dessert. It would only last 7 months for the 7 books and we would just pick a day of the month that worked best for everyone.

Girls Day On Me

Or on them, but whatever. I am reposting this here, because I haven't really posted on my personal blog in a while, and I'm sure most people aren't checking there... Anyway, my company (Daily Home Planner) was going to have a booth at the Utah Valley Women's Expo at UVU. We decided to back out to concentrate on getting out web version released, but they sent us 25 tickets anyway! So I have 20 tickets available to give away. First come first serve. My sister and I are going to go with her Japanese student. Just email me/comment here/call me if you want some tickets. They'll be available 'till they are gone!

Freezer Meals Help

Hey ladies,

Do any of you have any really good and easy recipe for freezer meals? I am pretty new to the whole freezer dishes and I am wanting to get some recipes, but would love it if they have been "tried and tested" first. Any recipes or suggestions you have would be great.

Please either comment with them here, or feel free to email them to me at oohscrap@yahoo.com. Thanks so much.

Free Legacy Center Membership

Hi all,

I volunteer at the Legacy Center Daycare once a week, and get a membership in return. It's great! If you work 2 hours/week, you get an individual membership, and if you work 4/week, you get a family membership. In my opinion, it is definitely the way to go.

There are 2 shifts available if anyone is interested. Call right away if you are, b/c it's on a first come, first serve basis.

Tuesdays from 9am-12 (you'd have to get 1 more hour in somehow to get a family membership)

or Wednesdays 8am -12.

They are also looking for trade substitutes. Again, you are required to volunteer 4 hrs/week for a family membership, but you don't have a specific scheduled day. People will call you and ask you to cover for them if they can't make their regular shift.

I've been there for a year and really enjoy it. You can take your younger kids with you for no charge. The lady in charge of hiring is Kris. Her number is 766-0127. If you have any questions, you can call me.

DiRegolo Family

Hi Ladies,
I have had a lot of people ask me what they can do to help the DiRegolo family... This is just one suggestion and of course you can always call Michelle and ask her personally... Anyway, they have a huge yard and have lots of weeding that needs to be done. Michelle loves to work in her yard but little Joe doesn't like to be outside or in the sun so you could either do some weeding for her, or offer to watch the kids inside so she could get some yard work done. We went over Monday for FHE and I stayed in the house with little Joe and Sophie while Dallan helped them get some weeding and yard work done. It was fun for our kids too. Just an idea...

Does anyone have...

A nice necklace...that has dark red beads...or anything dark red....that I might be able to borrow for next weekend? I'm looking for one that hangs a few inches below the collar bone.
This blog can be for those kind of posts right?

I am hosting a Scentsy party on Wednesday August 6th from 7pm-9pm. Click here to find out more about the scentsy product if you are not familiar with them. (They are wonderful!)

So if you are in the neighborhood and would like to stop by for an enjoyable evening along with some yummy treats and good company, then stop by.
All product is 10% off!!! We will also have inventory here, so unless you all want to buy the same thing...you should be able to bring it home with you!!! Yeah!!!

Let's Do A Girls Night!

OK, I will be in desperate need of a Girl's Night on Friday (Aug. 1st). So let's do it. I'll put a poll on the blog, or just make a comment as to whether you want a Girl's Night OUT or a Girl's Night In. Let me know which you would prefer and if you are coming. I'd like to have the details nailed down by Thursday (If we do a night out, I'd need to find a babysitter). Anyway, let me know... My home phone is working again, but there is no answering machine (for those who don't know, my actual physical phone broke, so I just bought a cheap one at Target yesterday to make sure it was the phone and not the line, so there is no answering machine on the cheap phone) I Can't WAIT!

swimming anyone?

Just a reminder for anyone interested:

swimming - TODAY!!!
3:00 at the outdoor Lehi pool (if you turn right onto 200 S. from Center St. you'll drive right past it). $4.00. Kids 3 and under FREE. If your not doing anything, come join us!

STAKE PRIMARY ACTIVITY
Wednesday, August 6th, Stake Center Pavilion
9-12, Open House - come any time during those hours
*Kids will be participating in a variety of "Olympic" events. This should be lots of fun (ok, I might be slightly biased) and a great activity to invite your non-or-less active neighbor kids to.
*A handout will be handed out this Sunday to your kids in Primary, but that doesn't necessarily mean you'll see it :)

Details on Scout Activity 7-29

The scoop that I got was that on Tuesday 7-29 the scouts are supposed to bring (2) empty 2 liter bottles to their activity that afternoon. This is when they will make their Bottle Rockets that will then be launched at pack meeting on Tuesday 8-5.

Also, if you have other children going to pack meeting that may want to participate in this...that they will need to bring (to pack mtg) their rockets already made from home. I think that the scouts will be bringing home instructions on Tuesday.

I hope that all of this is right and that it helps. Any questions call you scout leader.

Primary Activity Day

Does anyone have the info on the primary activity that is supposed to be this Wed?
My kids said that they were going to have one, but didn't know any info on it.

Thanks

Scouts...

There was an activity announced on Sunday...
something about next Tuesday, and bring 2 liter bottles...
Details anyone?

Need Help???

If you've made it this far, but aren't sure what to do next, please ask someone in our ward. We want everyone to be able to benefit from this blog. If you feel you don't know much about blogging and would like a little help, JUST ASK!!! It may seem a little overwhelming to some of you, but believe me...If I can do it (and I am very technologically challenged!!!), anyone can :) And if you are reading this and know of someone who could use help, go help them and get them involved in this. Spread the word to your visiting teachers and neighbors this next month so that everyone will know!

Some people to ask for help (and they don't know I'm listing their names; I'm just listing people who I know have personal blogs, so I know they know what to do and could help. And I'm sure they won't mind!): Mauri Brewer, Jamie Richards, Sarah Kimmel, Brittney Miskin, Natalie Wright, Shari Schemp, Jenn Davis, Jenny Lynes.

Available...

I don't know if anyone will check this in time, but I have 2 tickets for the Pioneer Day Commemoration Concert at the conference center for TONIGHT, Saturday the 26th.
You have to be in your seats by 7:00 and no children under 8 are allowed. If you think you might want to use these tickets let me know and you can swing by and pick them up.

Thursday, July 24, 2008

along with activities...etc. It might also be good if we post about Sisters that might need help with something. If someone has been in the hospital for anything like an emergency, surgery or baby and needs anything. (by the way there's 3 I can think of right now Mireen, Joe, and Diana)
Maybe Julia can help us with this one.
What does everyone think?
Also, is there anything else anyone thinks this blog should accomplish?
